So I haven't monoprinted in quite a while and with this class coming up I wanted to do some basic experimenting to help me remember how to do this technique. I only had about $20 in my name at the moment so I bought some black water-based speedball ink from Hobby Lobby. Usually I like to use oil based ink but since there isn't any locally and the fact that I don't even have enough money to buy one can of it I settled for the lesser. So I did just some basic tests with my black ink, not too exciting since I love layering and color, but still lovely. I liked using the water-based ink because it was easier to clean up and it was non-toxic, but I found it too thin to do a tracing technique so I added some flour. To add some color I used a watercolor monoprint technique, one of the several techniques I will be teaching in my class coming up. I also jazzed up a couple of these with some old letterpress printing blocks I have been collecting from antique shows.
I graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in May 2009, majoring in printmaking with a minor in communication design. Along with being an artist, I am a graphic designer at Royal Brush an international art products company based in Indiana.
